Information on connecting wi-fi in LM XFCE 18

I recently had a problem connecting to my wi-fi network after installing XFCE18 and wanted to share some information I found.
After some research and trial and error, found a website where the instructions were laid out to do a step by step installation using the command line approach.
It's very well explained and worked for me after the first try.
Besides I learned a few things along the way which will come in handy for future connection problems.

Hope this can help someone.
