Inactive Network card

Hello

I am running RedHat ES v.3 on an IBM Intellistation Z-Pro the system is a 500Mhz system with about 1GB ram. I have been trying to get an IBM Lanstreamer Token Ring card to work on the system. I have read that the card is supported by the kernel which I believe because the system does recognize the card.

When I use the network configuration utility, under the hardware the card is shown but not initially shown under the devices tab. I attempt to setup the card under the devices tab and it seems to work but it is listed as inactive. When I attempt to activate the device it fails reporting that the card does not seem to be present.

The card is listed in the /etc/modules.conf file but if i do an ifconfig in a terminal window the card is not listed. When I try to setup the card from the ifconfig command is not successful.

I am not sure If i have the right driver or not but the IBM website does not have Linux drivers for this card.

If I need to make changes to the Kernel or other config files, I will also need some help with do these things. I can navigate the the system and make any changes to text files, but I have no idea how to change and recompile the Kernel or probably anyother file. I have worked with Samba and have used testparm and resarted the nmbd and smbd deamons so I am not totally out of touch.

Thankyou for any help you can provide
