appearantly the tulip modules weren't compiled in the kernel.. i fixed this... but still no eth0.... now just for the hell of seeign what would happen i ran the livecd again... here i see an eth0... now when i set up the ethernet card for internet... nothing works.. i know the settings are right because i tried them with a bootable Knoppix cd.... the card is a Linksys LNE100TX.... i'm very stuck... any ideas?

so tulip shows up on your live CD, but it's not loading in your gentoo install? try running:

or check the logfiles in /var/log for error messages when the tulip module tries to load
