Ident ID on IRC and possibly other places

Hey, when I connect to IRC i get an Ident of 1000 while my friend has neenee.

ex:
[vexer] (1000@hidden-31332.******.***) : vexer
[neenee] (~neenee@hidden-39533.dsl.******.**) : lalala

know how I can fix this?

i use xchat as my main irc app, and i noticed
i can change the 'neenee' bit to anything i
like by altering the 'user name' in it's config
(server list dialog), but the tilde (~) in front
of it stays; perhaps there's a way to remove
that too (since i think it's quite ugly)?
