ICS sharing with win xp as host

hi there guys

here's my situation , i have a pc with win xp that has an adsl connection, and it shares the connection through ICS to my Linux Mandrake 9.1 PC, this is done by a crossover cable.

Then, i went to NetConfig and put static IP, the gateway, etc and all works fine, i can play enemy-territory ,i can use my browser, i can use IRC, all working good.

But everytime linux loads i don't have a connection, but if i open a console as root and type

ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.2
route add -net default gw 192.168.0.1

It works fine again, so i was wondering where can i put these instructions , is there something like an ini file where we can put these settings?

Thanks in advance i'm a total linux newbie, and i would appreciate any help.

There should be a file /etc/network/interfaces If so make sure you have something like this:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.254
up flush-mail

Not sure if Mandrake does this different

Maybe you would get a better answer in the Mandrake forum? Click on "Report this post to a moderator" (at the bottom right of any post) and ask them to move it there.

check for this

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

however, mandrake has a gui tool that should configure the network. for further explanation of file structure look here

http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/basics/index.html#fad

and specifically for /etc

http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/basics/bfiles3.html

good luck.
