Accessing ICS on XPSP2 Host in Mandrake 10.1

Hey,

I'm sure you hear this all the time but I am quite new to linux. I know my way around but I suppose I would still consider myself an amateur.

Anyway down to the problem:

I have a Windows XP machine with a BT Broaband connection. This has ICS enabled and the broadband comes in from a BT Voyager 100 USB Modem. I then have an ethernet connection out to an 802.11b Wireless Access Point.

On my laptop I am running Mandrake 10.1 with the Intel Centrino 2100 using ipw2100 drivers. This all works perfectly.

In terms of simple networking this is working fine. i.e. I can ping the AP (192.168.0.2) from mandrake, I can ping the ICS host (192.168.0.1) from mandrake.

My trouble is I cannot access the shared internet connection. I have a strict IP set for mandrake (192.168.0.10), subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1 as is the requirement for ICS to work (or so I thought)

I have tried accessing the web via IPs (ie finding googles ip and then trying to connect directly) to no avail and so I don't think it is a DNS problem. Just in case that was what was up I found the btbroadband DNS addresses and put those in to the mandrake control centre internet settings area. Still no internet access.

I am not using WEP or anything at the moment because with that I cannot access the network at all, no ping etc.

Please could you give me some ideas because I am stuck!!

I feel so close yet so far,
Thanks in advance,
Toby

Update

I thought maybe it was something to do with the windows XP firewall (using SP2) and so I turned that off just as a test but no result

I can use samba to access all of my files across the network without any problem but still no internet access.

I thought it might be something to do with the odd setup. The AP has it's gateway set as 192.168.0.1 so should the linux client be set to have the AP as its gateway which in turn will access the ICS???

I have no more ideas!

Toby
