/* Note from moderator: If you want a good book, buy it! If authors aren't paid for their hard work, they won't write any more books and then how would you learn? Please be respectful of other people's intellectual property. If someone posts their own knowledge on the 'web for free, that is their decision. If someone writes a book, it's because they expect to get paid for it. */

Many people find the various titles from O'Reilly* to be quite helpful. They have a whole serious of books on networking that you can find here: http://networking.oreilly.com/

Here are some titles you might find helpful:
The Networking CD Bookshelf, Version 2.0
(includes: Building Internet Firewalls, DNS and BIND, Essential SNMP, Managing NFS and NIS, Network Troubleshooting Tools, SSH, The Secure Shell: The Definitive Guide, and TCP/IP Network Administration)

TCP/IP Network Administration, 3rd Edition
(If you don't want to buy the whole bookshelf)

IP Addressing and Subnetting Including IPv6

TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1: The Protocols
(This is widely regarded as the best book for learning TCP/IP fundamentals, and I personally recommend it highly

*Disclaimer: O'Reilly generously sponsor Linuxquestions.org.
