I think my router is causing Diablo 2 problems

I am running a WRT54GL Linksys router (a linux based router). And I am trying to run Diablo II on ubuntu 8.04 under the latest version of wine. Everything works fine I can connect to the server but once I am on the gaming network (Battle.net) after a few seconds I stop receiving data. It works fine for a few seconds I can join any of the games made as long as its within a few seconds of logging on. After that few seconds it will just tell me I failed to join any game I select. I press quit to go back to the character select screen and it gets stuck at "Connecting .....". If I reconnect immediately or any other time the result is the same I "timeout" a few seconds after logging on.

I have forwarded the required ports (4000, 6112-6119) on both my router and my software firewall. I am also using a third-party firmware for the router (Hyperwrt + Thibor). I think it might be something to do with not enabling "established connections" somewhere in the port forwarding but I am unsure where to set this. I have tried connecting from 2 different pc's both running the same setup. I am unable to test it from a windows pc because d2 does not run on vista. I would appreciate any help. I hope this issue qualifies to be in this particular forum.

Edit: Since the post I have tried a plethora of methods that have not worked for me but I figured it would be best to list them.

I enabled DMZ
I tried Port Triggering
I disabled both router and software firewalls
I disabled port forwarding
I disabled Block Anonymous Internet Requests

None of this did anything.

Can you connect your machine directly to your cable or dsl modem? That would tell you if your problem is caused by the router. I would also completely disable your iptables for the first run. If this fixes the problem then enable iptables while you are still directly connected to your broadband modem. That wil tell you if the problem is iptables.

You might also want to look into QoS packet prioritizing. I'm not familiar with it because I don't play network games any longer. (Getting old.) I've looked at the setup for QoS on home routers though. It looks like you can do a lot of traffic shaping, for good or for evil.

I've heard that the Linux version of the Linksys routers has very little RAM. Maybe the router just doesn't have the horsepower required by these games. Now I'm just guessing.

And yes, I believe that you chose the correct forum. Sounds like a network problem to me. :)
