Unhappy I forgot to key in IP Address while installing Linux


Hi,
I recently insatlled Red Hat Linux ES Workstation...While installed I had forgotten to type in my IP Address while installation..Someone tel me how do rectify this? Very New to Linux..But want to learn....

do you have a dhcp server on your network? try

dhcpd
pump
dhclient

and see if any of those get you on the network. If not you can do it manually, but you will have to know the internal ip address of the router you are hooked to or of the isp's router if your connected directly. Then you would do this ( assuming the routers internal ip is 192.168.1.1 ) and your card was eth0

ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
echo nameserver 192.168.1.1 > /etc/resolv.conf

thanks for the info..but can u be bit more clear abt the syntax...its a dhcp server..how do i do it manually exactly..?appreciate it if u could tell...

Looks like it is a workstation, Yes? If so, open a terminal and type:

su -
{your root password}

ifconfig eth0 the address you wish to give it/the subnet you wish to have. 255.255.255.0 = 24

See if that works.
