I tried that, and still no joy.

It does actually resolve the host names from the hosts file, but still can ping only mac (

pi@testpi ~ $ ping mac
PING mac ( 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mac ( icmp_req=4 ttl=64 time=105 ms

pi@testpi ~ $ ping bb
PING bb ( 56(84) bytes of data.


but as you can see, it resolves correctly. This is the same as before, but I didn't think it through.

I believe that the fundamental cause of this is the purging of dhcpcd5, which has had far reaching effects, and I know I could solve it all by doing the decent thing - ie, burning the card again and starting from scratch, but I would like to know what's happening. I will have learned nothing if I burn a card.

I'll try to find occurrences of '' in text files, as this is the only lan address that is pingable.
