HP E-PC 40 network card problems

Hi.

I am trying to get the network card to work on a HP e-pc 40 with linux.

Intel Pro/100 VE card (onboard)
Intel i815 chipset
Is using eepro100 module
Mandrake 10.1

I have had it working once when i did an installed. I have no idea why or what i did. The when i changed something or install some software it stopped working. Now all i get if i try to ping is destination unreachable.
It works fine under windows xp/server 2003

cat /proc/pci shows network card listed, with irq 5

Also using the irq is onboard sound & ide controller - maybe this is part of problem.

I have also download latest driver from intel (e100), compiled it, used modprobe to load it... and it made no difference.

There isnt any errors when linux boots etc.

How can i get rid of everything else that is being loaded and maybe using the same irq - maybe there is a conflict.

How can i manually force the driver to use irq's i want. I have tried using ether= in lilo.conf, and options in module.conf - but maybe i havent done it properly.. I have noticed that windows xp assigns irq 20 to card.

Hi davonz,

I encountered the same problem as you. Today, I managed to install Debian (Sarge) on my HP e-pc 40 with a working NIC. I think, the problem is the apic stuff with that machine. So I disabled the apic at boot time with 'noapic, nolapic' and it works for me.

Btw. On my Debian system, the EtherExpress PRO/100 VE uses the e100 module.

Hope this helps

binary regards

Kurt
