Glad you posted an update and the solution.


On a side note.
Some of us feel that you would be better served or get better replies if you just started your own post. We get confused easily. Since linux changes, some of the 10 year old issues may not be exactly as your issue. You are welcome to add to posts if you want and more than welcome to start a new one.

If they're gigabit nics you don't need a xover cable - it autonegotiates the connection.
