How to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.6 (using Dragonlinux)

i whant to upgrade my kernal from 2.2 to 2.6 can you give me DEATIL info on how i would veen start on this (rigth now im downloading the 2.6 kernal (its taking for ever on dial-up) )
