How to Traffic Shape to Give Surfing Priority
 

Hi

I have an Ubuntu Server that is connected to my dialup modem. All the machines in the house use the Ubuntu Server as the gateway to the internet (yep I'd get highspeed if I could). How can I traffic shape on the Ubuntu Server so that surfing will get top priority and other stuff (downloads) will got no priority.

I've seen howtos about wondershaper, however I can't find any details about it. From the howtos, it appears that you enter upload/download speed limits, but I don't see anywhere to enter rules such as:
-give top priority to port 80
-give top priority to machine X (your surfing machine)

well wondershaper does generally try to do what you're doing, but in a more generic way. There's no need to specify port 80, why would you? specifying a port targets browsing and bulk downloading in the same way. The smaller and more interactive the traffic is, the more priority wondershaper gives it. Having said that, just look at the script... you can clearly change it to put arbitrary priorities on certain ports nad hosts if you really need to. just have a look.
