How To Setup a Linux Email Server & Thunderbird
 

OK, here's the situation. We want to setup our Linux server to handle email from our company's domain. We want our Windows clients to use Thunderbird to connect to mail server. Is Sendmail the server program that we want to use for this? Can it be configured to handle emails for our domain and to allow our Windows clients to connect to it using Thunderbird? I'd really appreciate some help from someone that's done this kind of thing before. If I get this setup, we can kick Outlook and our Exchange Server out the door and use Open Source & Thunderbird instead! Thanks in Advance!

If you want it to be like outlook and exchange then I would also reccomend installing courier-imap to handle mail retreival. Sendmail or qmail will work fine as an MTA.

Which is easier to setup & configure, Sendmail or Qmail? This if for a small business so our needs are pretty basic.

Qmail I think is better than Sendmail...:)

There is a very helpful script called "qmailinstall"...It makes all work...:)
And install all needet packages like qmail, deamontools, courier-imap, POP3, qwebmail /WEB interface/, QmailAdmin,...and so on...:)

qmail is more secure due to it modular design. But sendmail is easier to set up. The choice is yours.
