how to setup a backup server for a samba PDC
Howdy to all experts out there!
I've recently setup my Linux (Redhat 8) box as a PDC (using samba) for 2 of my Windows XP PCs. My plan is to use the Linux box for user logins, file sharing ans stuff like that and then add another PC as a backup server for my Linux box. Any ideas how I could do it? Samba, ftp, what other options do I have? Cheers! |
Forgot to another question!
WIll the server be overworked if I have around 20 more XP boxes connected to it and also want it to handle printing services at the same time? I have enabled roaming profiles by the way, will this furthur slow down the network? |
The last time I setup a PDC server was like 2-3 years ago, and there weren't any BDC setup, it was just not possible.
But, I found this guide via google. keywords=samba bdc howto http://us3.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/...BDC-HOWTO.html hope, that help. |
Cheers mate!
I'll be looking at that soon! In the mean time, I'm trying to get my XP machines to print from the Linux box. When I try to add the linux printer, I get this message in XP: "A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. blah blah blah....." Did I missed some settings somewhere? |
