I tend -not- to use telnet - ssh is much better and more secure - there are far more distros which have telnet diasbles and with teraterm-ssl for windoz I never have to worry about security - that's my 0.02 worth

I have a similar problem...I want to test pop/smtp. To do that I was told to telnet to my localhost on port 110/25 to see if I connect to it. I have ssh installed ....would it do the same as telnet?
When I connect to localhost using ssh it asks me for user than pass then nothing....( it tells me I am not connected)?
As i am sure you inferred by now, I don't know much ...I tried typing in command prompt chkconfig and that returned nothing..
what next...?

I have a confusing question:
The telnet service is already on when I use chkconfig to check the service. However, I still couldn't use telnet service. It gave me the reason: connection refused.
