How to set up LAN with Linux and XP ?

Hello, I am still learning my way of Linux, I am trying to do file sharing between linux and window xp, can someone please give me some direction

Broadband connects to my router, and both Linux and XP machines are connects to the router. I can go on internet just fine, but I don't know how to do the file sharing. I have fedora core 2 with all the packages installed. I tried to use samba and NFS files sharing but have no luck. Do I need to install any protocol on the winxp machine or....? please help out

You must set samba client and server on linux PC like Windows PC's are set:same name of Workgroup same local dns server if there is one ... most important is to enable netbios in samba server settings ... if you have wins server enable it in samba server config ... i'm using suse 9.2 and it can be all set thru gui control panel and yast but you can find config files and edit them.

smbclient should be able to let you connect to the XP machine.
open a conqueror window and write in the address bar:
smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ip of your XP machine
or from command line: smbclient -L xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

and check your firewall settings.
tcp 137 and udp 139 ports should be open.
