I've spent the better part of 2 months trying to simply use an old box to set up as a web and file server with no luck. If you search my posts you'll see many problems encountered. I'd like to use Ubuntu Server and install XFCE while I learn command line methods.

Can anyone give any suggestions or point to any HOW-TO's that actually work? This is beyond absurd and frustrating because I can't even get basic commands to work (route, config files, etc.) Suggestions for a beginner to set up a web/file server would be much appreciated. Thanks.
