Am running Redhat AS 3.0, have HP printer attached to Win2k box on LAN.
Have basic Samba shares working between both boxes.
My Win2k printer is shared.
I want to print from the Linux box to the WIn2k attached printer.
.
Can't seem to get past the redhat-config-printer->'Add a new print queue'->'Authentication' panel. I supply Workgroup,Server,ShareName, UserName, Password.
.
"smbclient -L Win2kBox -U<user>" returns the following:
.
Sharename Type Comment
--------- ---- -------
IPC$ IPC Remote IPC
print$ Disk Printer Drivers
oracle Disk
ADMIN$ Disk Remote Admin
SEAPRT7 Printer SEAPRT7 14th Floor East
C$ Disk Default share
Server Comment
--------- -------
Workgroup Master
--------- -------
.
I just can't get past the 'Authentication' challenge trying to setup the printer.
.
Found nothing useful on Google. Most of the threads on this site address Win2k->Linux printing, not the other way around.
.
What am I missing? Do I need to be running somekind of additional Samba printer client on Win2k? A good reference would be gratly appreciated.
Right. Here are the 5 fields that need to be populated:
* Workgroup - The name of the Samba workgroup for the shared printer.
* Server - The name of the server sharing the printer.
* Share - The name of the shared printer on which you want to print. This name must be the same name defined as the Samba printer on the remote Windows machine.
* User name - The name of the user you must log in as to access the printer. This user must exist on the Windows system, and the user must have permission to access the printer. The default user name is typically guest for Windows servers, or nobody for Samba servers.
* Password - The password (if required) for the user specified in the User name field.
.
Question:
What do I need to do on the Win2k side to define a "Samba printer", "Samba workgroup", etc?
My problem is that altho the target Win2k server shows up in the RH 'Printer Configuration Tool' -- the problematic Win2k printer does not. I can't get past the Authentication screen regardless of what I put in these 5 fields.
This leads me to believe that I'm missing something on the Win2k side. One again, besides Win2k right-out-of-the-box, what else do I need on the Win2k side to enable a Samba-shared printer?
