how to ping eth0 after removing it from a bridge

I have a bridge br0, and eth0 under br0. I am able to ping to br0, but once I took eth0 out off br0 and assign a new ip address to eth0, I can't ping eth0. Any body know how can I ping to eth0 after I remove it from bridge?

What distribution are you using? Try restarting the network or rebooting the machine?

What is the output from
brctl show br0?
