How to know whether my machine is in network or not ?


Hi,

I want to know whether my machine is in network or not without using ping command.
Any oher means to get the same?

use tcpdump ... If broadcasts/etc are hitting your card, you are on the net

tcpdump is a command line utility. From the shell prompt (on a terminal window) or the Linux Console,

#tcpdump -i < the interface you want to check e.g. eth0 eth1 etc.>
