Let me put it simple way. Are you now able to access internet from your WiFi? Or you still have to use your room-mates wireless? Did you disconnect from your room-mates WiFi before performing ping test from your WiFi?

Ignore the below if your WiFi is now working fine. If not then continue with the below steps:

If you are able to ping default gateway when connected to your WiFi try pinging www.google.com. If that does not get resolve then it could be a problem with your modem which I am sure is also acting as a mini-router. It will be a good idea to check the dns server listed in your resolv.conf file. Type the following command and paste the output here:

Code:
sudo cat /etc/resolv.conf

I have zero Internet connection from my own wifi. After I changed the settings in my pptpd.conf file I lost all access to it and I cannot get it back and verizon does not support Linux help, and neither does my laptop company.

I pinged google from my wifi and got an error I then pinged it from my roommates and it worked fine

Code:
kbj@KBJ~$ ping www.google.com
ping: unknown host www.google.com
kbj@KBJ~$ ping http://google.com
ping: unknown host http://google.com
kbj@KBJ~$ ping http://www.google.com
ping: unknown host http://www.google.com
My roommates wifi
Code:
kbj@KBJ~$ ping www.google.com

The first one is my roommates, mine just says "home" because I have zero Internet connection

Code:

If you are able to connect to your wireless network and then unable to access any website then the issue is with your Verizon FIOS wireless router / modem. If you are not able to connect to Verizon FIOS wireless network (which I don't think so is the case) you can refer the following document: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Adhoc

I did some digging for Verizon FIOS and I think these guys only support their products with M$. But you can still get in touch with them to make sure your wireless router / modem is setup correctly.

I would suggest you to first get in touch with them and get your wireless router / modem settings checked. If they are OK then you can continue with the document that I have mentioned above.
