Question How To Install and Setup UPNP?

I am looking for complete, easy to understand step-by-step HOWTO / install guide for installation and setup of UPNP (universal plug and play) on Linux for various distros (Redhat, Mandriva, Debian, Slack etc).

Where is the guide / documentation for newbie?

Thank you.

Exclamation

> UPNP what

Some bittorrent programs such as Azureus use UPNP.
Unfortunately the download speed is slow because of UPNP problems.

That still doesn't answer the question. Are you using a Linux machine as a gateway, and you want to setup UPnP based port-forwarding for clients?

The UPnP setting for a bittorrent client is to set the ports on the router. This is dangerous. Don't use it. Set the ports manually.

Linux does have the Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD daemon which implements zeroconf (aka also known as "Rendezvous" or "Bonjour").

For example, if the avahi daemon is running you can ping a hosts by name (e.g. ping dumpling.local) without needing to add the names in /etc/hosts or to run an internal DNS server.
