Question How to Install a NIC that is not Listed

Hello to alll

I posted a thread earlier asking a question about adding an NIC to SUSE 7.3 that is not listed as being supported under SUSE 7.3..

The NIC is a D-Link DFE-550TX Ethernet card and like I said it was not listed... How would I go about making this NIC work with this version of Linux......

If all out there need more specifics please let me know..

Thankx to all who respond.............

Where exactly was it not listed? Personally I have never had good luck with D-Link cards. I would recommend getting a Linksys of 3Com and going from there. If you can't do that then I would see if D-Link has a website with any support for that card. You might also want to check Suse's hardware compatability list to see if it is there.

ascii2k might have a point. If you know of a hardware store that shuffles used gear, pick up a 3com for $5-10.

Here's some data on the card. Looks like there is a precompiled module for from the vendor site for it, but that's probably useless as your kernels have to match. I also read on a list that the sundance driver should work, and since that post was made in April, and the writer, Garzik, has been working on drivers throughout 2.4.x, its probably supported by the new one.

Whoops... It looks like this card has already had a saga, right here too!

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

Finegan
