How to get list of services status in linux

Hi all,
How to get the list of services status in the linux machine. if i give #service --status-all in command prompt it's telling the list of services status in that linux machine , but i want implement the same functionality though program , please tell me how to go about this, which file i have to parse , how to parse etc..,
