How to find IP addresses on a network

Hey,
I'm having problems getting samba going so I'm relying on ShareScan for Windows to share files across my network. I still use Linux primarily, so what I'd like to know is how I can find a start and end IP on my network for ShareScan to look at.

While I'm doing this post, I might as well ask what samba needs to find sharing computers on my network. Does it need each individual IP? Or start and ends like ShareScan or nothing at all? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

From a terminal as root issue "/sbin/ifconfig" and you might also
want to issue "man ifconfig" and read it.

No Windoze on this computer....

Hi,
For this first u have to know ur system ipaddress .Issue command "ifconfig" and check ur system IP.
issue command nmapfe(GUI) for scanning ur network.
If u want to share anything on the network u have to configure through SAMBA. OR there also exist certain gui tools
for u to do it. For accessing others share u can use the network neighbouhood (like in windows) in GNOME or KDE.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
