Question How to disable mDNS service?

I'm doing a security remediation and I ran across port 5353 globally open on my SLES 9 boxes.

A little research quickly pointed me to multicast DNS, of which I have absolutely no need for.

I've done lots of internet searches and thus far come up dry on a method to disable the service other than one reference to creating an empty /etc/mdns.allow file.

Any additional news on this front?

This appears to relate to the avahi daemon. The following fixed it for me.

Code:
# chkconfig --level 3 avahi-daemon off
# service avahi-daemon stop
