How to copy all User and Samba info to new HDD

Server: FC2, Samba, 500 users
Client: 40 Win98 PCs
Samba is working great - no problems.

New server is FC3, Samba - same ver, Raid1 setup and all is well.

I want to copy all the user files and smb configuration to the new server and then switch-over.

made tar files of the /home and other shares (all user files needed)
gFTP to new server
expand again
copied the etc/samba/smbpasswd, smb.conf
copied across the /etc/group, passwd files. (Added the differences not replace the complete file)

What else do i need to do. Can this work?

the client machine returns the message "no domain server to validate ...."

testparm ok
chkconfig says smb on, swat says smb off
I cannot edit (view the properties)of the users via the gnome-config... GUI (Users and Groups)

Did you add the server to the domain?

Problem was the firewall. Disabled the firewall and got it to work.
Entered "445:tcp, 139:tcp" in the other ports section of Security Level Configuration. Still doesn't work. how I configure the ports?

Other problems still exist:
1. SWAT still indicating the status of smbd and nmbd as not running, and they are.
2. Can't edit or access the properties of the users (not the samba users) via system-config-users.
Any new user created is accessable but those i transfered from the /etc/passwd file are not.
