How to connect to www w/SuSE 9 Pro

I just recently loaded SuSE and everything looks great except I cant get onto the internet. Previously with my other linux distro (Redhat 9) it did it all for me...so I quess I never paid enough attention to what modules/process' are needed. SuSE found and configured my NIC but regardless of what I've tried...no luck.

I have disabled the firewall...no luck.
I have looked for protocols that I know I need to get connected (using a cable modem) via YaST (Network Services) but again...no luck
I have entered my static IP address that WinXP says I have...no luck
I have switched to DHCP...no luck

Please advise....and thanks for your response.
