How to connect over vpn?
 
OK, I have installed vpnc and adjusted the conf file.

I run:

sudo vpnc-connect <name>
and got:
Code:
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
/etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc: Warning: /etc/resolv.conf is not a symbolic link to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf
VPNC started in background (pid: 8680)...
What next? Have I been connected? If I have so how I can access the network?

Thanks a lot in advance as I am completely noob in vpn!

yep that's running. how do you use it? well you just do... assuming you've not done anythign fancy with your routing and configured split horizon then any traffic you generate will head down tun0.

Thanks a lot for your response. In Windows I have all the network drives appearing in explorer. But nothing is in Nautilus/Thunar. How can I actually access the network?

you are on the network... what do you mean?? a vpn and windows cifs shares have nothing in common.

I guess I am too ignorant here. I assumed that vpn is to access the remote network and the files on it. At least this is what I use it for on Windows. I guess I should mount shares in some way or what?

ok, I have figured it out eventually. Ran 'route', got the ips and here I am, able to browse the remote shares. The only problems that they are read-only. I know that they are ntfs, but I thought that ntfs is writable over samba. Am I wrong?
