How to connect internet in Linux OS

How to enable internet on my Linux OS

I have to connect via my Nokia cell phone N-73 via cable.
This way only I had been using internet on my Windows OS.
If any software is required to install on my Linux for internet, then I don't have any. If any s/w needs to be downloaded, please provide me link also if possible.

Also, please let me know if you need any further information to help me.

Hi,

at the very least we'll need to know the GNU/Linux distro you are using. Also any documentation you have regarding how to tether that particular phone.

Hi Evo2
I have Fedora 9 version 2.6 installed in my machine direclty.
I am now installing latest Ubuntu 12.10 (for 32-bit) in my virtual machine. Host is Windows 7. Hopefully by today or tomorrow, I would be doing this installation. Once this is done, I hope it will be better and comfortable for me to do internet in this Ubuntu 12.10.

Now, trying to address your 2nd point. I had been using internet on my Windows 7 on my laptop by connecting it with my Nokia N-73 via cable. When I connect the cell phone to laptop, in my cell phone 4 options come to ask me how to connect: 1)Mass storage 2) PC Suite 3)Media player 4)PictBridge . Now, to connect internet, I have to select option number 2. i.e. PC Suite. After that in laptop I need to click the option for connection. That's all. Earlier I had installed PC Suite software ( of Nokia ) in my laptop in Windows 7.
As far a documentation is concerned, it may be there mentioning this. I will have a look later on.
Now the same cell phone needs to be connected to Ubuntu (preferred) or Fedora. So, what you say, do I need to search for any software in internet to be supported in Linux!!!!
I am not sure how to go ahead. Please give your valuable guidance.
Thanks
Ravi

I take it you are not aware that Fedora 9 is now 9 versions out of date ,and went End Of Life back in 2009-07-10 -- July of 2009 .

it has been unsupported for almost 4 years now.
and has no support for any new hardware ( like that phone)

Fedora 18 is the current

and the current Ubuntu is 12.10

When I started working on Linux I had a same situation, what I did is , I have connected using bluetooth dongle hope your nokia phone supports !!!!

John VV, thanks for the useful clarification.
By mistake, I mentioned in my previous post that I am installing in my virtual machine (oracle VM virtual box, host is windows 7) Ubuntu 13.10. It is not 13.10 but Ubuntu 12.10, the latest one which you also mentioned in your post.

So I would be connecting internet on this Ubuntu 12.10.

asifbasha yes my Nokia N-73 supports bluetooth. But would it require me to install any software also in my Ubuntu 12.10?

Hi,

sorry now I really don't understand your situation. You are talking about using virtual box. The guest machine will not have access to the wireless, but will have some virtual wired device that will typically be bridged to the to the host machine. Have you read the networking sections of the virtual box documentation?

If you are not using virtual box, and still want help with this, please explain what your situation is.
