how to configure a server as a gateway

Hi there,

Can I configure an existing linux machine to be a gaeway? I have a DSL connection and my default gateway is the router itself. I want to connect my linux machine to the router and take the router off the lan. What do I need to make this linux machine to run as a gateway?

This is a introduce yourself forum, not to ask questions in. I have submitted to a moderator to have this moved accordingly. Please pick the best forum to place your questions in the future. Thanks.
