How to configure a name server...Please help

Hi Peeps,

I'm new to Linux and also new to networking. I want to setup a name server in such a way that if I ping a hostname of a pc, i will be able to get the corresponding ip addresses. Do you know URLs which will step-by-step show the configurations? I already have bind, but i have no idea how to configure it. Hope someone out there will be kind enough to help me on this. My another problem is synchronizing the time with the server. Is it possible to use a common time for all the workstations? Please help me...
