how to check network connection speed in linux


you know how in windows if you click on local area connection it will show you connection speed, such as 100 Mbps or 1Gbps.
how can you find this out in linux?

Maybe try ethtool?

good enough, i can tell if i'm connecting at 100 mbps or 1000.
