How to browse files on a Linux computer from an Android phone using Bluetooth
Hello,
I'm new to Bluetooth. I'd like to know if it's possible to browse my home directory (on my notebook) from my mobile phone, just like I can browse an FTP server, but using Bluetooth. (Not only sending and receiving files, but browsing directories.)
I'm using Debian sid on my notebook and Android with ES File Explorer on my phone.
If possible, I'd like to automate the connection so that I don't need to do anything on my notebook to establish it, once paired.
Thanks in advance,
Esteban

You need a obexftp service running on the phone and computer.
ES File Explorer has obexftp I think, so you need to make sure you have obexftp installed in Debian.
Not sure if you'll be able to view /home by default- you might only have permission to see /Public.

You shouldn't be able to view any user's home, unless the configuration is very lax.

If you want to browse and control your PC from your phone, install Teamviewer on both. You can't use bluetooth, AFAIK, but you can use wifi. You can set Teamviewer up to either generate a password for each connection, or to use a permanent password. Once installed and configured, you can access the PC from anywhere, as long as it's connected to the internet and you have the correct password.

teamviewer is a little overkill, and I don't like the fact that it is not 'direct' ( you connect via a third party )
great for offering 'support' to clients, but I would never use it for my own 'use'.
better to setup a vpn, and run your own vnc server, which is basically what teamviewer is, a VPN/vnc clien/server.
but I would rather use ssh and screen , I don't need a gui
to be honest, I've never tried connecting via bluetooth
ES File Explorer, with samba, or sftp works fine for me
I also use AndFTP ( again with sftp )
but I mostly use ConnectBot
I'm 'rooted' with CyanogenMod 'ROM', so I also use scp and sftp to get the 'odd' file to my phone
I can do all this from 'outside' my network via a VPN
If I were you I would explore what FreewheelinFrank mentions in post #2

Thank you all.
While I waited for answers I tried different things and ended up using, on my notebook:
Code:
hciconfig hci0 piscan
bluetooth-agent <password>
bluez-test-device trusted <address> yes
obexftpd -c /tmp -b
Then I could see my notebook's /tmp directory from ES File Explorer on my phone, besides transferring files between both (from the notebook I tried first with ussp-push which is very simple).
Thank you very much again.
Best regards,
Esteban
