How NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM will reach my DNS server ?

Hello all,

Well i am confused at a point. I hope someone will be able to explain this to me.

Scenario...

I just registered a domain mydomain.com.

my mailserver webserver dnsserver are on a same server whose ip is for example 11.11.11.50

On my server I made entries to my DNS Server like following

IN NS ns1
IN NS ns2
IN A 11.11.11.50
mail IN A 11.11.11.50
mydomain.com IN MX 0 mail.mydomain.com.
ns1 IN A 11.11.11.50
ns2 IN A 11.11.11.50

Now after that

I went on and logged in to mydomain.com's control panel and added ns1.mydomain.com ns2.mydomain.com in the nameserver's area.

My questions is that

if i "ping mydomain.com"
then how and who is going to answer that ns1.mydomain.com or ns2.mydomain.com points to 11.11.11.50 which is the DNS server which has entry for mydomain.com tld ??

I hope you got my question. Ask me if there is an ambiguity.

Thanks

As part of registering a domain name, one of the requirements is to provide two name servers that will be authoritative for that domain. One way to check would be to run the following command:

whois <your_domain_name_here>

and in the output look for the lines that start with 'Name Server'. There will be the names of name servers that answer queries for your domain name.

Another thing is when you register a domain name it can take up to 48 hours before the registration becomes active.

Regards,

Fordeck

yeah i know that stuff already...

my point is if we do "whois mydomain.com" and the output comes

firstnameserver = ns1.mydomain.com
secondnameserver= ns2.mydomain.com

then who is going to tell that ns1.mydomain.com is pointing to 11.11.11.50 ip ? How and who will do that ?

You must provide glue records which will be served by the .com DNS servers.

In my case there is a global DNS server for our xxx.sk domains > SKNIC. This authority is responsible for maintaining the Slovak domains. In this server a domain registrator can make records for two or more DNS server IPs which will be the authoritative DNS servers for your domain.
