Question How do I view my linux computer on a windows computer?


I downloaded the vnc 4.1 on my linux computer which is running Ubuntu I'm not sure how to view it on a windows computer. I really have no idea what i'm doing so can anyone that answers please add as much detail as possible.

You need a VNC client on your Windows machine.
I would suggest going to http://www.tightvnc.com/ and downloading the windows version. If you follow the instructions, you should be able to get it working.

It depends on what you mean by "view".

File sharing is incredibly easy. Just Google "samba howto ubuntu":

Actually displaying your *nix GUI directly on Windows is also do-able (but, IMHO, a bit more complicated than it really needs to be). Google for "xvncserver howto ubuntu". For example:

<= Since you mentioned VNC, this is probably the option you want

And you can also install X Windows directly on your PC. Google "CygWinX howto":
