How do I use sftp to upload my web site? (no sftp tar command)
I've got a small website that I need to upload to a remote server. I need to do it securely, so I figured I'd use sftp.
I don't want to "put" each file individually because that would be tedious. I want to tell sftp to upload a tar file, and then un-tar it, in-place, once it gets there.
But "sftp help" doesn't say anything about un-tarring a file. And I don't have access to ssh into the server to do it myself.
How do most folks upload their site to a server on which they only have sftp access? Or is what I'm asking to do unusual? Maybe I'm *supposed* to be able to ssh in, and I just don't know it...(?)
Hmm... maybe I'm supposed to use a GUI ftp client that wraps sftp?..
EDIT: Ok, turns out we've got ssh access to our public_html directory, so all is well. I should be able to just upload the tar file with sftp, and then ssh in to untar it.
