okay, i'm with you so far... you are sharing a dvd drive on your windows box... you've created a shortcut on your linux desktop to access the dvd drive at it's network location, and you can tell your linux programs where the dvd drive is if they need it...
what's the command the shortcut is running?? what error message is it producing??

SuSE keeps looking for it as being physically located on the SuSE box. I need to find the default location and change it.

the default location of
what??
have you tried to mount the share and then access it through a regular directory on your drive??
you could then edit your /etc/fstab and have the share loaded at boot if available...
