How do I share files on a Windows DHCP network?
Newbie to Linux Networking here.....I have two computers with a third to come on a wired Full Duplex 10/100 network, with a Netgear router acting as the DHCP server and I want to share a hd with the Windows comp. I set up Samba server, and when I get on the Windows comp it shows a comp labeled "Samba Server(Linux)" but whenever I try and open it it says "Access denied...check your network rights or talk to the computer administrator" or something like that. How can I share this HD? I have it formatted as FAT so the Windows installation on this computer can read and write it also.

do u know about the issue with encrypted passwords, when using samba in a win network ? if not, read
ENCRYPTION.txt (try: slocate -u and then slocate ENCRYPTION.txt) u either need to allow win client to use UNencrypted password, or enable samba server to use encrypted password btw: if u share a partition with samba, there is no need to format it with fat..just leave it the native file system like ext2 or 3 |
type that (slocate -u) in the shell? when i do that, it says command not found
