I was refering to "registering" the name servers - not the domain name itself.
ie, lets say I registered mydomain.com
and I have a name server set up, and I want it to be ns1.mydomain.com.
How do I register ns1.mydomain.com so that mydomain.com's name server can be ns1.mydomain.com

Huh? Your reply is confusing. When you register a domain name (like mydomain.com), you register the nameservers that are authoritative for that domain name. So if you want ns1.mydomain.com to be the authoritaive name server for your domain, you would list its name and IP address during the registration process via your favorite registrar. Like what Chinaman mentioned in his post.

Thanks

Worded a little different for additional clarity:
When you register the domain itself, mydomain.com, you get to pick or specificy it's name servers. Just make ns1 point to your DNS server.
