Heres how

If you did a server install of redhat or knew what you were doing and made sure you installed a telnet server then this should woork.

/usr/sbin/in.telnetd

If the server won't start on bootup, add that command to the the end of the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file

Hope this helps.

NO NO NO!!!

extremely wrong advice!!!

edit the /etc/xinetd.d/telnet file and change the disable=yes line to disable=no

seeing as this is about the 2nd most common question on this site, i don't understand why someone said that.... that solution is a really nasty crude hack. xinetd is specifically deisgned to handle minor servers klike telnet, and does it very effectiely.

and if you're using inetd instead of xinetd, edit the relevant part of /etc/inetd.conf instead.

If you want an even easier way, type:

ntsysv --level 345

at a command prompt. Scroll down to telnet and hit the space bar. That the Red Hat way (that or chkconfig telnet on.)
