how can i use DSL(internet service) via USB port in linux????

how can i use DSL(internet service) via USB port in linux????
im using a DSL broadband internet service provided by MTNL, the problem is that my PC is connecting to LAN via USB port. it works for windows XP but in linux it doesn't work. so help me with a solution on how to use internet thru my USb port on linux??
Getting the usb dsl to work requires some software for the processor inside the dsl.
To find out what the usb bus thinks it is, do lsusb and look for the modem name.
Then Google for the id number and name ( eg 062a:0005) and your provider's name.
Look for links to packages your distro may have..
The modem will require a pppoe or pppoa package as well.
