How can I share Internet with Windows using ADSL gateway?

Hi,

I have a working broadband Internet connection, Ubuntu 7.04 on my desktop, that I would like to share with a notebook running Windows. Also I have ADSL home gateway, Linksys model WAG354G, connected to Ubuntu. My Ubuntu desktop has two ports with the following configurations:

* eth0 obtains an IP Address from the broadband Internet modem via a wired connection using DHCP.
* eth1 obtains an IP Address from the ADSL home gateway via a wired connection using DHCP.

With the above setup the notebook is able to obtain an IP Address as well from the ADSL home gateway via a wireless connection using DHCP. Moreover, the Ubuntu desktop can access the shared folders on the notebook.

I followed this guide on ubuntugeek.com with no luck: Sharing Internet Connection in Ubuntu

If I understand this correctly, my guess is your ADSL gateway (which is not connected to ADSL?) is telling your notedbook to use the ADSL gateway for both the gateway (default route) and the DNS server. I think you want to have your Ubuntu system as the gateway, and probably give your ISP's DNS server addresses to the notebook. (If you are running some kind of a DNS service on Ubuntu, then you would list that computer for a DNS address instead.)

There are ways to find out from MS Windows what the addresses it has been given for gateway and DNS, but I don't know what they are.

Thanks blackhole54
With your help and the iptables howto on debuntu.org I managed to share the Internet. However, the connection did not last for more than few minutes only . I use SimplyMEPIS 6.5 now and its Network Assistant tool to manually configure the interfaces. Here are the current configurations:

eth0
IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Subnet Mask: 255.255.252.0
Broadcast Address 255.255.255.255
Defaul Gateway: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <-- Provided by the ISP

eth1
IP Address: 192.168.10.64
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Broadcast Address 192.168.10.255
Defaul Gateway: 192.168.10.1 <-- this is the IP Address of the linksys router

The DNS servers are set manually as provided by the ISP. On my notebook I have the default gateway set to the IP Address of eth1, 192.168.10.64, and the DNS servers set to the ones provided by the ISP.

I noticed that when using KNetworkManager only one interface can be activated. Would it be possible to activate both interfaces?

So using MEPIS everything is OK?

I am not familiar with KNetworkManager. But you show two interfaces active. What am I missing?
