well essentially you read the documentation and use it accordingly... that's exactly what mrtg is for, so i'm not really sure what you are after here.

Linux has four softwares of use to YOU. "Sane" will help to scan images then send as files. "GIMP" will do more than that. "GQViewer" will show images. "Take Screenshot" will one page at a time capture the that page for YOUR choice of direction before transmitting. There are others of YOUR interests. Debian has a huge inventory. Other Linux Distro's vary in their softwares. Worth YOUR time to check them out.

i think you've missed to point of the question by a country mile, TBH. this is about polling and graphical statistical data, not drawing pretty pictures.

hi,

simple steps :
- correctly install the MRTG in the box
- make sure apache already installed and running
- do installation test using your own MRTG box
- activate SNMP host pointing to MRTG box, send traps, set community private/public on your switch <--- this is the most important step
- query the switch from your MRTG box - then compile it.
- check and recheck whether you want to use it as daemon.

HTH.
