How can i monitor the network speed?

Hi,
1.Is there a way to find out the speed of my office LAN? I am having RHEL server with proxy+IPtables running on it.IS there any tools available?

It could be handy for me to check the switches and cables for better performance?

2. I am having a squid server as proxy for my office. How can I find out the data transfer from my ISP?
The setup is , the router is connected to the server and server to the switch , and the switch inturn to other switches and workstations. I want to check the data transfer rate on both ways. i mean from ISP's router to Server and server to the clients?

3. Is there a way to find out which client is consuming a lot of bandwidth?

All suggestions are invited. Please Advise

Setup MRTG and use the SNMP data from your switch.. you can then graph the bandwidth for the ports on your managed switch, router, ethernet interface of a Linux box, etc..

If your switches / routers support netflow, that would be a great source of data for what you want.
Netflow was practically designed for that specific purpose. OpenSource Netflow resources

From wikipedias netflow entry..
Quote:
By analyzing flow data, a picture of traffic flow and traffic volume in a network can be built.
