How can i do this network setup?
 

I'm trying to set up a network in the manner shown in the attached schematic. My problem is the ones hightlighted in purple, everything else is working fine. Could someone give me a quick tips on how this can be done (if at all possible)?

• The computer the router is connected to will be running linux (ofcourse). :)
• What mode should i set the router to? I've listed the available modes below.
• Is there any way i can prevent the game consoles (or computers) from being able to contact anything but internet past the router or bridge computer? i.e the bridge computer becomes the only visible gateway?
• I'd prefer them to have their own ip range behind the bridge computer/router and use the DHCP function in the router, or perhaps setup DHCP on the bridge computer.
• I would like to be able to view the traffic going trough the bridge computer.
• What gateway and dns ip setup should i use on the router and the consoles/computers connected to the router?

The router has these modes (grabbed from the setup wizard).

• PPPoE
• PPPoA
• Bridge Mode (For a single PC)
• Routing Mode over ATM
• Dynamic/Fixed IP in 1483 Bridge Mode (For Multiple PCs)

Any thoughts and tips would be greatly appreciated. :)

Well, I think you are overcomplicating it.
But ok, maybe you know what you're doing:
1) The wl router is easiest setup as a bridge, but that only allows one computer or console connecting.
Please observe that the computer sitting between AccessPoint & WL-Router must be configured as a router itself, meaning you get two networks here.
Or of course use 'puter as bridge, but then why not buy a switch? They cost almost nothing and will save you pretty much hazzle. What is the purpose of the computer?
You might have to change the routing table manually to get this to work - that depends on the system on the routing computer, is it a workstation or a dedicated router/fw distro?
2) How to prevent the game consoles (or computers) from being able to contact anything but internet: this is of course a firewall issue.

You need to tell us more, why do you want this setup - what is it you want to accomplish? - what are you going to use the (3) computers for, what distro will you use?
Your incoming Internet should have a router somewhere, probably that access point.
What is that, what firewall capabilities does it have?

Think it through, start with what you want to achieve then design network.

This is exactly what i want i think, some form of sub-net that is pretty much unaware of whats between internet and the bridge computer, and has it's own ip range different from the net between fiber reciever and bridge computer.
So i should look into the 1483 Bridge Mode?

I really don't have a good answer as to why i want to do it, or what i'm hoping to achieve with it; other than wanting to do it and knowing how it's done, or if it can't be done :) The 'hazzle' is what makes it fun :)

It's like with jigsaw puzzles, you can see the image on the box, but for some reason people still bother putting the exact same picture together themselves. And sometimes you just can't figure out where a piece goes, or you dont have a picture at all, and thats why i posted my questions here. :) But thanks for the help, you've given me some valuable clues as to where i should start! cheers!

Not sure what distro i will be using, but it's purely a play computer so i'm probably going to take the opportunity to try out a few. But most likely Ubuntu since that's what i've used the most so far.

Going to leave it unsolved for a little while longer in case you guys have some more great tips :)
