How can I connect to a VPN in Linux through a computer that can?

This question may have been asked before, but I don't know how to search because I am not familiar with the terminology.

My work's VPN requires an authentication method that is only provided on Windows. That means that from my Windows laptop I can connect to the private network, and a Linux instance that is running in a virtual machine inside of Windows also has access to the network, but I don't know how to connect from a standalone Linux machine.

I would like to connect from my Linux workstation however. Is there any way that I can use the Windows client connection or the one inside the virtual machine to get access to the VPN on the Linux workstation?

The only way that comes to mind is running a VM on your Linux workstation with Windows as the guest, then install the VPN software your work requires on the Windows guest. I've not done this so can't be certain it would work but can't hurt to try - you will probably need another Windows license for the VM though.
