or 'ifconfig eth0', 'ifconfig ppp0'
etc. to see the details of one interface at a time
you'll probably need to 'su' first, I do.

... or if you not keen on the command line , you can always try the gui, redhat-config-network.

I have red hat 9 installed and have tried that command and can't get it to work. It brings up the ole' bash command not found error. I tried as SU, but still nothing. Any suggestions?

Which command, ifconfig or redhat-config-network? If it's ifconfig, then as a normal user, you need to include the full path which is /sbin/ifconfig .
If you are trying it as root, make sure to issue the command su - so that it executes the login proper viz. runs .bashrc etc. and picks up the proper root path.

If it's redhat-config-network, then you may not have the rpm installed. Check the CDs for the correct one. Personally, I always have apt for redhat installed which makes life easier.
